Overview
The authorisation process allows individuals or organisations to legally install and operate a distributed generation system, such as rooftop solar, connected to the electricity distribution network.
Authorisation Steps

Application Submission
- Submit the prescribed form under the Licences and Authorisation Regulations, 2024.
- The Commission issues a unique registration number and acknowledgement electronically.

Review & Technical Feasibility
- Application processed within 3 months of acknowledgement.
- PUC conducts a technical feasibility study within 60 days.
- If feasible, the Commission issues a certificate to install.

If Issues Are Found
- PUC notifies applicant and Commission within 25 days.
- Applicant has 15 days to correct issues.
- If unresolved, application is unsuccessful or placed on a priority waiting list.

Installation
- Must comply with BS 7671 standards.
- Completion required within 180 calendar days unless extended.
Commissioning
Systems up to 100 kW (Net Billing)
- PUC inspection and safety checks within 7 working days.
- System synchronised and meters installed upon approval.
Systems 100 kW to 500 kW (Gross Metering)
- Grid impact evaluation and metering arrangements agreed with PUC.
- Commission inspection within 7 working days.
- Safety certificate issued and system synchronised.
Authorisation Granted
Once all requirements are met, the Commission issues the authorisation to operate the distributed generation system.
